Deadpool – February 10th

Former Special Forces operative Wade Wilson is suffering from cancer which has spread to his brain, lungs, liver and heart. In an effort to cure his condition, and stay alive to be with his girlfriend Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), Wilson finds himself subjected to an illegal experiment which leaves him with accelerated healing powers, disfigured skin and an unstable mind, leading him to adopt the alter ego Deadpool. The Spec Ops operative turned mercenary heads out to take down the man who almost destroyed his life, armed with a dark sense of humour and just a few guns.

The first of six comic book films scheduled for release in 2016, Deadpool sees Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Reynolds return as the ‘Merch with a mouth‘, who wants to win over audiences following his disappointing portrayal in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. 20th Century Fox are taking a big gamble with the film, with its hard R-rating (15 in the UK), niche audience and a character who constantly breaks the fourth wall. However, Reynolds and the team have led what many are referring to as the greatest marketing campaign of all-time which has already seen interest in the movie drastically increase, resulting in a current opening weekend box office prediction of close to $100 million domestically (US).
