‘Transformers 5’: Why Would Optimus Prime Attack Bumblebee?

Why would Autobot leader and all-around good guy Optimus Prime attack his loyal comrade Bumblebee, as seen in the recently released Transformers: The Last Knight Trailer?

Not known for their solid story telling, Michael Bay’s Transformers films often seem to get very confusing, very quickly. A notion that has not been dispelled by the recently released trailer for the franchise’s fifth instalment Transformers: The Last Knight. Fans the world over have been frantically trying to put the pieces together and come up with ideas as to where the new movie will be taking us, but perhaps the most asked question the new footage poses is: Why are Optimus Prime and Bumblebee fighting?

As expected, the new teaser trailer offered us much in the way of striking visuals, and less of the movie’s story beats, displaying the film’s grittier feel throughout in its characters, settings and sequences. We get to see select snippets of scenes from medieval times (in relation to King Arthur), to a seemingly dead Optimus prime drifting out into space, to a moon-devouring robot planet (likely to be Unicron), and much much more. But, why does the trailer feature a closing scene involving Prime and Bumblebee engaged in combat..with one another(!?).

One such theory on the two Autobots’ bother, brought forward by Cosmic Book News, proposes that the drifting “dead” Optimus is what gives the game away. At the end of the series’ last outing, Transformers: Age of Extinction, the team leader flew off in search of the Transformers’ creators, but, judging by the trailer, it looks as though he encountered some sort of technical difficulties, to put it mildly. Whilst on his unconscious space vacation, it could be that Prime is somehow turned into a zombie, or put in a zombie-like state. This idea is based on a storyline from the TV series, in the animated film Transformers: The Movie, so, it could be that Bay is pulling more from the source material here.

Of course, this is simply speculation with no concrete statement from the studio confirming this rumour to be true, or even suggesting that OP is in any kind of zombified state. Clearly something’s up, you can tell by his eyes being more purple than usual. But, as always, let’s take the possessed Optimus theory with a grain of salt.
